White and light blue, with the arms of the city
This flag is split down the middle: white on the left, light blue on the right. In the centre stands a golden mural crown over a blue shield. On it a papal tiara sits above two crossed keys and a shield with red and white stripes, over a red castle with two towers and an open gate, and the Latin legend «CIVITAS TERRACINAE». A branch of laurel and a branch of oak, tied with a tricolour ribbon, frame the shield.
Arms and gonfalone from 1937
Italian Wikipedia says the arms and the gonfalone of Terracina were recognised by decree of the Head of Government of 9 September 1937. It describes the gonfalone as a cloth divided white and blue, and the arms as a castle with two towers on blue, with a silver shield with three red bands under the papal insignia, tiara and crossed keys, and the legend «Civitas Terracinae» on the inner edge of the shield, with the external ornaments of a city.
The temple above the sea
Terracina is a comune in the province of Latina, in Lazio, on the Tyrrhenian coast, at the southern edge of the Agro Pontino near Cape Circeo. Above the old town, at 226 metres, stands the Temple of Jupiter Anxur, facing the sea.
A cathedral built on a temple
The co-cathedral of San Cesareo was built and consecrated in 1074, and incorporated the main temple.
