White, with a rooster and a lion: the flag of Aquino
This flag is plain white. In the centre stands a shield divided down the middle: on the left, black with a gold rooster under three gold stars, and on the right, white with a rampant gold lion wearing a small crown. A large gold crown sits above the shield, and two branches, one of laurel and one of oak, tied with a ribbon, frame it.
Cosa dice lo Statuto
The Statute of the Comune of Aquino says the emblem of the Comune is a shield showing a rooster with three stars on a black field, and a rampant lion on a white field, with a crown of five points, and that the base and sides of the arms are surrounded by a wreath made of an oak branch and a laurel branch. The gonfalone, the ensign of the Comune in official ceremonies, shows the arms.
I colori del gonfalone
Italian Wikipedia describes the shield in the same way, with the lion «crowned in the old fashion» and three points of the crown visible, and says the gonfalone in use is a cloth divided diagonally into white and black.
The old Aquinum
Italian Wikipedia says the name Aquino comes from the Latin Aquinum and probably refers to the abundance of water in the area. The town lies in the Liri valley, in the province of Frosinone, in Lazio, and was an important commercial centre on the ancient Via Latina; it took the title of Urbs in 211 BC. The remains of Aquinum, with walls, theatre and amphitheatre, are still visible.
