Red and blue, with the arms of the town: the flag of Arcene
This flag is split in two horizontal halves: red above, blue below. In the centre stands a blue shield with a grey stone castle whose tall central tower rises over a battlemented base, on a green ground. A grey mural crown with a red lining sits above the shield, and two leafy branches tied with a ribbon in the Italian tricolour frame it from below.
The tower
Italian Wikipedia gives the blazon as a blue field with a castle with one central tower, in natural colour, battlemented in the Guelph style, open and windowed, standing on a green ground. It describes the gonfalone as a cloth in red and blue. This flag uses the same two colours, laid in horizontal halves.
The Statute and the Madonna del Pianto
The Statute of the Comune of Arcene says the Comune has its own gonfalone and arms, adopted by the town council and approved in legal form, and it recognises as the civic festival of the town the feast of the Beata Vergine del Pianto, celebrated every year on 5 April. Italian Wikipedia ties the date to the sanctuary of the Madonna delle Lacrime, a 19th-century neo-Gothic shrine commemorating a painted Madonna said to have wept on 5 April 1864.
In the Bergamo plain
Arcene is a comune in the province of Bergamo, in Lombardy, in the western plain about 14 km south of the city. The first written record is a donation of 753. In 1428 the area passed under the Republic of Venice, and the Fosso Bergamasco marked the border with the Duchy of Milan. The parish church of San Michele Arcangelo was built in 1781, and the station on the Milan-Bergamo line opened in 2009.
