Red and white, with three flames: the flag of Calvi dell'Umbria
This flag is split down the middle: red on the left, white on the right. In the centre stands a silver shield with three red flames, under a gold count's coronet with pearls. A wreath of laurel and oak frames the shield, and below it a red scroll carries the words «Calvi dell'Umbria» in white.
Lo stemma e il gonfalone
Italian Wikipedia says the arms of the Comune were recognised by a decree of the Head of Government of 15 November 1935, and that the gonfalone is a cloth divided red and white, the colours this flag takes.
On a rock above the Tiber
Calvi dell'Umbria is a comune of 1,667 inhabitants in the province of Terni, in Umbria. Italian Wikipedia says the old town stands at 401 metres on a spur of limestone rock, on the slopes of Monte San Pancrazio, in the Tiber valley between Lazio and Umbria.
A bare rock
According to Italian Wikipedia the name Calvi most probably comes from the rocky hill the town stands on, called Carbium, «bald», because it has no vegetation, and «dell'Umbria» was added to tell it apart from Calvi and Calvi Risorta in Campania. The same page says the area was inhabited from the Bronze Age, as finds on the summit of Monte San Pancrazio show.
