White, with a three-headed deer: the flag of Cerveteri
This flag is plain white. In the centre stands a blue shield with a three-headed deer walking over a green meadow, holding a spear against its shoulder with a red pennant marked «C.C.». A grey mural crown with a red lining sits above it, and a wreath of laurel and oak tied with a tricolour ribbon frames the shield. The words «Comune di Cerveteri» are arched over the top in black capitals.
Le braccia
Italian Wikipedia says the arms of the Comune were recognised by a decree of the Head of Government of 29 May 1933. The blazon, given on the Wikipedia file page of the arms, is: azure, a three-headed deer, two heads turned and one looking back, natural colour, passing over a meadow and holding against its shoulder a gold spear with a red pennant bearing the letters C.C.
Il gonfalone
The gonfalone, granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 2 August 2007, is a cloth divided yellow and red. Our flag is white, with the name in the arch above the arms.
Caere, the Etruscan city
Cerveteri lies on the Tyrrhenian Sea, 42 km from Rome. Italian Wikipedia says it occupies the south-western corner of the tufa plateau on which stood Caere, one of the great cities of southern Etruria, and that its name comes from Cere Vetere, «old Cere», the old site as distinct from Cere Novum (today's Ceri), a distinction that appears in a bull of Pope Gregory IX of 1236. The Banditaccia necropolis was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2004.
